Safe Kids Day
Join Safe Kids South King County (led by Seattle Children’s) for Safe Kids Day on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Angle Lake Neighborhood Church, 18617 42nd Ave S, SeaTac, WA 98188. There will be fun activities, including a bike rodeo, bike helmet fittings, pedestrian safety bean bag toss, water safety activities, and a distracted driving game. All activities are free, but you can donate as little as $10 so we can continue providing these great services to the community. See you there!
On Wheels
May is National Bike Month! Be safe. The single most effective safety device available
to reduce head injury and death from bicycle crashes is a helmet.
On the Water
May is also Water Safety Month! In Washington State, an average of 25 children and
teens drown every year. Actively supervise children in and around open bodies of
water, giving them your undivided attention.
In and Around Cars
Buckling up the right away on every ride is the single most important thing a family
can do to stay safe in the car. Check out one of our monthly car seat inspection
sites to speak with a child passenger safety technician about ensuring that your
children are properly secured in vehicles.
At Home
One way to keep children safe at home is to ensure that their toys are age-appropriate.
Small children discover their world through taste, and are quick to put things in
their mouths. Ensure things like medicine, button batteries, and other small objects
are kept out of reach of young children.
In Sports
More than 38 million children and adolescents participate in sports each year in
the U.S. Approximately two-thirds of all sports-related injuries leading to emergency
department visits are for children. Ensure your children are safe by having them
always wear sport-specific, properly fitting safety gear when participating in sports.
Safe Sleep
Because most infant suffocation occurs in the sleeping environment, babies should
always sleep in safe cribs. They should never sleep on beds, sofas, recliners, chairs,
soft surfaces, bouncy chairs, or baby swings. Room-sharing is better than sharing
a bed with your infant.
